Metropolises Make the World Go Around

After a very successful conference in Poznañ entitled "Let's get to know government in Poznañ", which was organized in February 2008 by Computerworld weekly and Poznañ City authorities as a part of the series "The Micro and Macro Scale of the State", we would like to invite you to a debate on the tasks of modern metropolises and the role of information and communications technology in their management. We hold the view that these events allow for a clear evaluation of the impact individual technologies have on the inhabitants' quality of life. This includes topics ranging from the functionality of City Cards to the benefits gained from geospatial analyses by the city administration. It covers issues such as activity-based budget, waste disposal, decreasing traffic jams by implementing a traffic management system, but also improving services for inhabitants and businessmen. In other words, let's talk about the ways to make big city life and big city business a little easier.

- The 3rd stage of the local government reform, the progress on the Act on urban policy, cooperation of local government bodies regarding this issue and changes made to other acts.
- The city in state policy. Strategic approach.
- Region versus metropolis. How to achieve mutual support without overlapping responsibilities?
- The goals and tasks of modern metropolises: communication and mass transit, land development, waste management, efficient services for residents, infrastructure (including ICT), the job market, the promotion of investment possibilities.
- The financial policy of large cities. How to implement an activity-based budget?
- New public services: how to apply ICT for the improvement of citizen and business services in public institutions?
- Good practices in metropolis management: city cards, traffic management systems, municipal bicycle rentals, mobile payments.
